Who is the author of EXCEL FOR NON-DUMMIES?
Al Baker is an acknowledged expert in the fields of Cost Management and Data Analysis.  He now works as an internal consultant to the US Federal Government after having spent over 20 years as a senior consultant to Fortune 1000 companies mainly in the USA and Canada.  Prior to that, Al was an auditor at Price Waterhouse in Toronto for over 5 years.

His experience includes custom training programs and speaking on topics such as Activity-Based Cost Management, Predictive Planning, and Activity Analysis.  Al has used Excel for many years in his professional (Private and Public Sector) and personal lives.

Al grew up in Toronto and New York, has 3 grown daughters, and now lives in Phoenix with his wife, Laura, and golden retriever, Dexter.

Because this is not my livelihood; I do it to help others and I enjoy it


Do I have a Microsoft MVP designation?

No, because to obtain that, I'd have to spend all my time with technical communities


How much experience do I have?

I've been using Excel even before it was Excel (when it was called Multiplan); and I have over 20 years consulting experience with SAP, the world's largest enterprise software company.  Excel has always been a vital part of my work in cost management and financial analysis.


Am I trained in computer science?

No; I have a Commerce degree from the University of Toronto and my background is Finance & Accounting


Do I use a lot of VBA programming ?

No; I'm not a programmer - nearly all of my tips and tricks are VBA-free


What is my specialty with Excel?

Data Analysis, Data Mining, Reporting; Best Practices; and teaching others my tricks
